The processing technology of chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) mainly includes ethylene chlorination process and ethylene plasticization process. The following are the specific steps of these two processes:
Ethylene chlorination process
1. Preparation of catalyst: Prepare aluminum chloride catalyst using solution method or precipitation method.
2. Ethylene chlorination: Ethylene gas, chlorine gas, and catalyst are sent into a chlorination tower. Through the presence of the catalyst, the ethylene gas undergoes chlorination reaction to produce ethylene chloride.
3. Purification: Purify the generated vinyl chloride to remove impurities.
4. Aggregation: Purified vinyl chloride is added to the polymerization reactor, along with initiators, regulators, and other additives, to undergo polymerization reaction and produce chlorinated polyethylene resin.
5. Drying and crushing: Dry and crush the polymerized chlorinated polyethylene resin to obtain powdered chlorinated polyethylene.
Ethylene plasticization process
The ethylene plasticization process is based on the ethylene chlorination process, which improves the flexibility and processability of chlorinated polyethylene by adding plasticizers.
The synthesis methods of chlorinated polyethylene also include solvent method, solid-phase method, and suspension method. Among them, the suspension method is divided into aqueous phase method and hydrochloric acid phase suspension method. The hydrochloric acid suspension chlorination method is currently the most advanced production method in the world, which has the characteristics of reasonable process flow and suitability for large-scale production.
Application fields of chlorinated polyethylene
Chlorinated polyethylene, as a multifunctional thermoplastic, has a wide range of applications. It can be used to make pipes, wires and cables, floors, decorative materials, etc. In addition, chlorinated polyethylene is widely used in fields such as petroleum, light industry, chemical industry, electroplating, printing and dyeing, building materials, aviation, food, papermaking, agricultural irrigation, metallurgy, shipbuilding, electrical appliances, textiles, etc.
In summary, the processing technology of chlorinated polyethylene mainly includes ethylene chlorination process and ethylene plasticization process, as well as various synthesis methods such as solvent method, solid-phase method, and suspension method. These processes have made chlorinated polyethylene a high-performance and widely used material.
