Although it has undergone more than 20 years of development, the domestic MBS industry is currently only in its infancy, and no company's products can fully compete with foreign products like PVC processing aids. Most existing enterprises are facing a series of problems such as insufficient equipment selection, unstable synthesis processes, and lack of breakthroughs in synthesis technology. Even most enterprises do not have their own styrene butadiene latex synthesis equipment and can only purchase non MBS specific styrene butadiene latex for MBS production, and the quality of their products can be imagined. At present, most of the products introduced to the market rely on price advantages and are applied to PVC products that do not require high product quality. In the high-end market, the market share is relatively small and has not yet formed an impact on foreign companies. It is expected that the import volume in 2006 will be between 50000 and 60000 tons, accounting for over 70% of the total demand.
2. There are few researchers and research institutions, which have failed to form a joint force for scientific and technological breakthroughs.
Although MBS has been listed as a national science and technology research project multiple times, it has not yet achieved significant breakthroughs. The main reason is that there are fewer researchers and less investment in technology. At present, it is still industry research institutions conducting independent experiments and seeking breakthroughs, but this research and development model can be considered relatively amateur compared to foreign group and large-scale scientific research teams.
3. At present, the level of PVC processing aids in China is close to that of foreign products, but due to the price constraints of CPE, it is difficult to promote them. Going global and competing with foreign products for the international market will be a good choice.
